Jerry Jones Calls Out Mike McCarthy's Play Calling
Mike McCarthy's Fate Already Sealed by Jerry Jones.
The Dallas Cowboys season is slowly slipping away. They continued to make headlines last week, heading into their bye week and even coming out of it.
Last week, everyone knew what owner and general manager Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas to the radio hosts. He supported head coach Mike McCarthy after the Cowboys lost to the Detroit Lions by a score of 49-7. Jones says he did want to speak hypothetically when he came to his head coach.
However, that tune might have changed on his head coach after what Mr. Jones said on his weekly appearance with Shan & RJ on 105.3 Fan.
"The types of things that we all think we should be looking at is we're designing bad plays, or we're designing bad concepts," Jones said in an honest statement about how his head coach and offensive coordinator are calling plays.
These words only fuel an already burning fire in “Big D. " Mike McCarthy and legendary Troy Aikman are getting into a “War of Words” over the play calling in Dallas.
“I think the routes are terrible,” Aikman said last Thursday on The Ticket in Dallas. “I think they run terrible routes. And I’ve thought that beyond this year. I think CeeDee (Lamb) has got to improve in his route running. As a quarterback, if you’re not certain where guys are going to be consistently, it’s hard to play the position. That’s what I see.
I see guys lazy coming off the line of scrimmage. Sometimes they run, usually if they do, it’s because they’re anticipating they’re going to get the football on that play, but if they’re not, they don’t. And it all ties together. I’m not impressed with that part of it.”

Aikman might know a thing or two about playing the position in Dallas. He led the Cowboys to three Super Bowl Championships. So when the head coach of the team dismisses them without a thought, it tells you all you need to know about the direction in which the team is heading.
“They don’t carry any weight with me, because I watch all the tape,” McCarthy said during a Monday news conference. “I get to go to the meetings. I’m at practice. I’m part of the games. So I have a clear understanding of what and where.
“Troy’s statement in particular, I don’t agree with the word selection. There is definitely need for improvement in every position, not just one position that he commented on.”
Everyone has been critical of the Cowboys' play, returning to last season. Many thought head coach Mike McCarthy would be fired in the previous year after the Cowboys lost to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round of the NFL Playoffs.
He came back, but McCarthy is a lame-duck coach. Jones’s comments only add to the speculation heading into Sunday's matchup with the San Francisco 49ers. You know, if things do not change, Jerry Jones will be asked about his coach’s future.
However, it might not matter because Jerry Jones might have already let his feelings be known that his Dallas Cowboys need a new head coach by backing Troy Aikman’s comments and not his coach’s.
One thing is certain: Mike McCarthy’s time in Dallas is winding down.
