(5) Georgia vs. (1) Texas
This is a big game in the SEC this week. This is the second half of the double main event on the weekend. Georgia is travelling to Texas, and a lot is on the line for Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs. While their schedule has some ranked teams on it the rest of the way, LSU and Ole Miss, a loss here devastates the program. A team with a chance to three-peat last season could miss the playoffs.
Carson Beck and the Bulldogs have to play better on the road. That has been the Achilles heel recently, but they found a way to win. However, the Longhorns are the best team in the nation, led by Quinn Ewers. Georgia’s defence must stop a high-flying offence that plays big in big games. Let’s see if this Georgia team can show the world who they are. A win by the Bulldogs threw everything into chaos.
(7) Alabama vs. (11) Tennessee
This is the first half of the double main event on Saturday when the Crimson Tide travel to Knoxville to take on the Volunteers. Alabama lost shockingly to Vanderbilt on its last trip to Tennessee. The Vols have beaten Alabama before in this spot. However, two weeks ago, when Bama lost, so did Tennessee. A loss by either team here, and they can kiss the playoff goodbye. This is a bigger game for Bama.
Tennessee returned to Earth after its hot start, but it did not play anyone. QB Nico Iamaleav has looked like a freshman, but if he can expose Alabama’s poor defense, Tennessee will win the game. Alabama ABalen Milroe remains a constant big-play threat, but he’s had to take chances with the defense being a concern over the last couple of seasons.
(6) Miami vs. Louisville
This is a big game for the Miami Hurricanes coming off the bye. Louisville is a tough team, especially at their home field. The Canes have struggled the last couple of weeks before heading into the bye week. QB Cam Ward is so dynamic that he gives this offense a different look, something the Canes have not had in a long time. But if they think they can win trailing down 28 to the Cardinals, think again. The Canes have the better talent with WR Xavier Restrepo and RB Damien Martinez. If Miami’s defense can make Louisville one-dimensional, the Canes will win, but Miami needs to be careful.
(25) Nebraska vs. (16) Indiana
It is a good old-fashioned Big Ten Battle between some undercards in the conference. After the heavyweight tilt last week, Nebraska and Indiana go at it this week. Matt Rhule’s club is looking to hand Indiana and Cirt Cignetti their first loss on the season. The Hoosiers are the new kids on the block this season. QB Kurtis Rourke has connected on 73.8% of his pass attempts with 14 TDs and just two picks. Indiana’s running backs, Justice Ellison, and Ty Son Lawton, provide another threat to the passing game. Cornhuskers QB Dylan Raiola still has freshman moments but has been steady for the most part. Let’s see if Raiola can have another big moment this season.
(12) Notre Dame vs. Georgia Tech
We saw what Georgia Tech did at the beginning of the season to Florida State. The Yellow Jackets sent the Seminoles into a tailspin. Their season is over. Georgia Tech will try to do it here. However, they will be in a tough spot without QB Haynes King. Georgia Tech could become bowl-eligible with a win. RB Jamal Haynes is a threat, and we know what he can do when running the ball. As for Notre Dame, a loss here coupled with the bad loss to Northern Illinois and the 12-team playoff is gone. However, Riley Leonard will show up for the Fighting Irish. Yellow Jackets LB Kyle Efford will try to contain Leonard and Notre Dame’s offense.
Other games on the schedule will be worth watching, including a big game on Friday that saw Oklahoma St battling BYU in the Big 12, Cal and Arizona St and Cincinnati (24) Michigan and (22) Illinois, Colorado vs. Arizona, (8) LSU vs. Arkansas, (17) Kansas St vs West Virginia, and UNLV vs. Oregon St.
