Official College Football Playoff Rankings Released
Everyone's favourite time of year is when the College Football Rankings from the Playoff Committee come out. This is the first year of the 12-team college football playoff.
The third official rankings are out. We have seen how the AP writers have ranked the teams. Now, we will see how the committee ranks them. As Kirby Smart said on Saturday, nobody knows what the committee is looking for, and he is right.
These rankings always spark debate about whether they are the first or last, which is what makes College Football great.
Right now, they are fun to look at, but they really don’t mean anything. Let’s see what the College Football Playoff Committee thinks with Week 3 of the College Football Playoff rankings after Week 13
THIRD COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF RANKINGS
Here are some takeaways from the third rankings. Outside the obvious, the SEC and Big Ten will get four teams, and the ACC and Big 12 will only get one team.
BYU's ranking of 14 is not surprising after their loss to Kansas. They dropped eight spots and held the final spot in this thing. Boise State now has one of the automatic bids.
But this is for drama. Everyone who produces the show needs something to talk about. We all saw this coming, but this was the narrative coming into Tuesday night on the weekend. However, Boise State still needs to win out and potentially play an undefeated Colorado State team.
Back to the Big 12, BYU and Arizona State will play a de facto play in the game this weekend. The winner will most likely play in the Big 12 Championship and could play Colorado. BYU was walking a thin line and playing with fire, similar to Miami, and it caught up to them. Iowa State is still alive.
Four SEC teams—Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, and Ole Miss—are still in the 12-team playoff. But everyone is complaining about head-to-head play. Nothing matters. Has nobody watched this since 2014? Everything is based on reputation, and how you play head-to-head only matters in the final week. The rules always change.
It is doubtful that a three-loss SEC will get into the playoffs. Again it is tough because of the tiebreakers. The SEC title game won’t be decided until the final weekend when Texas plays Texas A&M.

Oregon is ranked number one in both the AP and the committee in College Football Playoff Rankings. They are already in the Big Ten Title Game. Things in the Big Ten will work itself out. However, Indiana had better play well on Saturday against Ohio State, even in a losing effort. If they get blown out, they will be out of the playoffs.
Is that fair? No, but everything is based on reputation. Indiana has not been here before. However, one can argue that Penn State has no business being ranked this high. Again strength of schedule.
The ACC only has the Miami Hurricanes seeded third and ranked eighth. SMU is currently 13, ahead of BYU, whom they lost to, and Clemson, down at 17. SMU is the only unbeaten team in the ACC right now.
If they win out, Notre Dame is a lock to be in the playoffs. It will depend on seeding for them. Army out of the American is still alive, ranked 19th, with Tulane at 20 right behind them, especially if Boise State slips. The American Championship is set.
Again, this is just the third official ranking, but you know someone will be upset when the new ones come out next week, too.
