The New York Jets are considered a complete joke, especially this season. After firing head coach Robert Saleh last month, the Jets fired general manager Joe Douglas on Tuesday. This move opens up the Jets to two questions: why Douglas, and why now?
Joe Douglas is not the reason why the Jets are poor. You can even argue that Robert Saleh was not the problem. Though the play calling was an issue and the schemes could be questioned, at least the Jets were competitive under Saleh.
Just look at the talent Joe Douglas brought in. Douglas drafted Garrett Wilson, Sauce Gardner, Breece Hall, Will McDonald, Braelon Allen, Jermaine Johnson, and Michael Carter II. While he did take a swing on Zach Wilson and missed, the faults of the Jets do not fall on Douglas.
This comes down to the owner, Woody Johnson. He is getting rid of the regime that was put in place while he was away as Ambassador Johnson. The problem is that, as owner of the Jets, he has allowed Aaron Rodgers to run the culture.

Players can undermine their teammates and coaches because if the star quarterback can do it, so can I. This all goes back to mandatory mini camps when Woody Johnson allowed Rodgers, who had not played in a year, to travel to Cairo, Egypt, on vacation.
Instead of gaining continuity with his teammates, including wide receiver Garrett Wilson, he is doing whatever Rodgers does in the desert. And you can see there was something missing.
The receivers and quarterback are not on the same page. The plays that Nathan Hackett is calling, receivers don’t know when to break and can’t read Rodgers. Instead of removing the problem of the offensive coordinator. Saleh tried to do that but was fired by Woody Johnson.
Rodgers has dictated every move the Jets have made, and they are paying for it. Mike Williams is out, and Davante Adams comes in. The offense still looks bad under their new head coach. Rodgers and the rest of the players look disinterested.
There is talent on the New York Jets roster. That is the problem. As Damien Woody said on ESPN, it is a roster, not a team. But that is because the quarterback dictates the culture, and the owner allowed it to happen.
Former GM Joe Douglas set this team up to be successful by drafting good players. However, like his counterpart in Dallas, Woody Johnson cared more about the headlines than winning football games.
Now, the New York Jets are committed to Rodgers and his way of thinking, and they will be left wondering what will happen next or what might have been had they done things the right way.
I mean… Joe brought in people to “fit” the roster… wrong guy out
