Everyone's favourite time of year is when the College Football Rankings from the Playoff Committee come out. This is the first year of the 12-team college football playoff.
The second official rankings are out. We have seen how the AP writers have ranked the teams. Now, we will see how the committee ranks them. These rankings always spark debate about whether they are the first or last, making College Football great.
Right now, they are fun to look at, but they really don’t mean anything. Let’s see what the College Football Playoff Committee thinks with Week 2 of the College Football Playoff rankings.
SECOND COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF RANKINGS
Here are some takeaways from the first rankings. Clearly, we are headed to two conferences, the SEC and Big Ten. But that is down the road. However, the foundation is being laid with these rankings and seedings.
Four of the top five teams in the new rankings are in the top five, with Penn State at four being ranked higher than an unbeaten Indiana team at five. That should probably be reversed, but that will play out on the field because Indiana has to play Ohio.
Four SEC teams are still in the 12-team playoff, with Georgia ranked 12 on the outside looking in because the five conference champions get automatic bids. Remember, the highest-ranked Group of 5 champ gets the 12th seed. Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, and Ole Miss are seeded and in the playoff. Georgia and Tennessee play this week.
Oregon is ranked number one in both the AP and the committee in College Football Playoff Rankings.
The ACC only has the Miami Hurricanes seeded fourth and ranked ninth. SMU is right now 14, with Clemson down at 20. SMU is the only unbeaten team in the ACC right now.

The gap between Boise State and BYU increased with the Cougars' win on Saturday over Utah. BYU is now ranked sixth, unbeaten in the Big 12, and seeded third behind Texas, which is ranked third, and Oregon.
Alabama’s win over LSU has propelled them higher into the Top 10. That was a season-saving win over the Tigers. How about Ole Miss and their big win over Georgia? There is a chance Georgia will still get into this thing.
If they win out, Notre Dame is a lock to be in the playoffs. It will depend on seeding for them. Army out of the American is still alive, ranked 24, especially if Boise State slips.
Again, this is just the second ranking, but you know someone will be upset when the new ones come out next week, too.
