Bill Belichick Heading to North Carolina
Bill Belichick to be the next football coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels
It is official! The greatest coach in NFL modern day history and eight time Super Bowl champion Bill Belichick is going back to college. As it was first reported by InsideCarolina, Belichick will be the next coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels Football Program.
Right before the season was North Carolina let it be known they were not bringing back Mack Brown to coach the team anymore. Soon whispers, rumors, and speculation started to swirl about who would be the next coach of the football program.
Reports hit the airwaves about Bill Belichick interviewing for the vacant position. He even admitted and confirmed the reports on the Pat McAfee Show.
He did not want to say too much other than he had several conversations and meetings with the people at North Carolina.
But the one thing he did say was that he would get kids ready for the NFL if they had the ability to go to the next level and if they did not he would prepare them for life.
"IF I was in a College program it would be a pipeline to the NFL for the players that had the ability to play in the NFL.. It would be a professional program at the College level.. I don't have any doubt that the players would be ready for the NFL,” Belichick said on the McAfee Show.
Well that IF has become a reality. Look the game has changed in college with NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) and the Transfer Portal. So Belichick’s recruiting skills are general manager skills and they can translate to the College Level.

With that being said you just can’t rely on the portal to put together a team. However, Belichick was at the helm of the New England Patriots Dynasty that won Six Super Bowls.
He was part of the team that drafted and developed many prominent players in the NFL including legendary quarterback Tom Brady.
So Belichick has an eye for talent. Not to mention he would bring in the right staff to help the team succeed right away in the ACC.
North Carolina was just on the cusp of getting to the next level with Mack Brown, Belichick can take them over the edge.
Initially the reports were he was going to get a three year, $30 million contract with the Tar Heels. Officially it is a five year deal. North Carolina up their NIL money from $4 million to $20 million according to reports.
Again this is about power for Belichick. He was the General Manager of the Patriots from the start of the dynasty until the end. Belichick knows he can control the players more in College than in the pros.
It also signals that teams in the NFL did not want to give him full control of the team. So he is going the college route.
While people still have respect for Belichick in the NFL, this could be a pathway back one day if he wants to break Don Shula’s record for most wins in the NFL with 347.
Belichick is only 14 wins behind that. But now he is a program that is on the rise and with the expanded playoff, who knows maybe North Carolina is a playoff team in Year One under Belichick.
Also North Carolina could not wait for the NFL season to be over to announce this with the portal open and the recruiting window opened as well. If they were going to get Bill Belichick it was now or never.
What a hire by the Tar Heels. This takes them from a basketball school to a football school overnight. Not to mention the job becomes more desirable the minute Belichick decides to leave.
