AP Top 25 College Football Poll: Alabama is Number One
The first month of the college football season is in the books. There has been a lot of movement in the AP Top 25 Poll through the first month. The preseason number 10 Florida State Seminoles are 1-4 out of the Top 25. Meanwhile, who would have thought teams like the Navy, Army, Rutgers, BYU, Indiana, Liberty, and others are undefeated through the first month of the season?
It seems like there is a new storyline in the AP Top College Football poll each week. The latest rankings are out, and the Alabama Crimson Tide is the number-one team in the nation. What a game they played against the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday. It was a fantastic finish, and Bama almost blew it, but the previous number four Crimson Tide beat the Bulldogs, who were number two in the nation. Alabama is a thorn in the side of Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs.
Again, the trend continues with the writers. If you perform, you rise; if you don't, you fall. The Miami Hurricanes dropped after their sloppy win on Friday against Virginia Tech. Miami is down to eight, while Penn State is back to seven. Despite the loss, Georgia is at five, Texas drops to number two, and the Tennessee Volunteers, who were on the bye, go to four.
How about UNLV? For the first time in program history, they are in the AP Top 25. Despite all the issues off the field, UNLV remains undefeated at 4-0. The Runnin' Rebels remain in the hunt for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

No Nick Saban, no problem, as Kalen DeBoer's team is up to number one this week. Looking around the rest of the AP Top 25 Poll, Clemson continues climbing the rankings. Iowa State remains undefeated, sitting at 16 with BYU behind them at 17. The loss by Utah dropped them to 18. Meanwhile, Boise State, after their big win over Washington State, pushes them to 21.
Surprisingly, Rutgers is still not in the top 25 after their wins against Virginia Tech and now Washington. Army and Navy are on the outside, looking in and remaining undefeated. It feels like this was a missed opportunity to put Rutgers in.
Again, there is a lot of the season left, and as conference play begins, we will see how these teams stack up.
